Dropouts may result. Try to close all or most active apps.\r\n This should solve the problem.\r\n\r\n2.\tBluetooth signals from smartphones and tablets are not very strong. Make sure that the signal does not have to pass through doors, walls etc. Always maintain a clear line of sight between \r\n transmitter and receiver.\r\n\r\n3.\tDo not carry your smartphone in your pocket, if you have dropouts. Your body can act as a screen, reducing the strength of the Bluetooth signal. Put the phone on a table or other surface.\r\n\r\n4.\tDo not walk around while listening. If the transmitter and the receiver are moved in relation to each other, dropouts occur more frequently.\r\n\r\n5.\tUnder normal circumstances, you can expect a range of 5 meters with no problems, if you follow the above advice. In some instances range is longer, but we cannot promise this."},{"attributes":{"type":"FAQ__kav","url":"/services/data/v38.0/sobjects/FAQ__kav/ka0i0000000YWPWAA4"},"Title":"My BDS refuses to play 3D discs on my 4K TV:BDS X80","Id":"ka0i0000000YWPWAA4","ArticleNumber":"000004525","ArticleType":"FAQ__kav","Question__c":"I have a BDS device which upsamples to 4K resolution, and I have a 4K or UHD TV.\r\nWhen I insert a 3D Blu-ray disc in the BDS, I get the message that it cannot be played. \r\nWhy is that, and what can I do?","Answer__c":"This is because a 4K TV will force the BDS into 4K resolution (upsampling), because this gives the best picture quality, being the highest resolution possible.\r\n\r\nHowever, there is no such thing as a 3D 4K movie. All 3D discs are full HD (1080p), but cannot be reproduced in 4K, because 4K resolution cannot be combined with 3D.\r\n\r\nThe solution is to enter the setup menu of the BDS, selecting normal full HD resolution in the picture settings menu.\r\nNow 3D movies will be shown correctly on the 4K TV."},{"attributes":{"type":"FAQ__kav","url":"/services/data/v38.0/sobjects/FAQ__kav/ka0i0000000YYN1AAO"},"Title":"My AVR/BDS/HK shows the word \"Protection\" in the display window, and will not work.","Id":"ka0i0000000YYN1AAO","ArticleNumber":"000004113","ArticleType":"FAQ__kav","Question__c":"My AVR/BDS/HK shows the word \"Protection\" in the display window, and will not work.\r\nWhat can I do to find out if it is defective, or if there are other problems?","Answer__c":"There are five possible reasons for the receiver shutting down.\r\n\r\n1.\tThere is a problem internally with the receiver.\r\n2.\tThere is a problem with one or more of your speakers.\r\n3.\tThere is a problem with one or more of your speaker wires.\r\n4.\tThere is a problem with the speaker wiring done on your system.\r\n5.\tThe unit is overheating. No ventilation.\r\n\r\nFirst, check the wiring at every speaker terminal at the back of your receiver and at the back of your speakers. A single strand of speaker wire crossing from one terminal to another would be enough to cause the amp to shut down or go into PROTECT.\r\n\r\nIf you do not find any problems with any of the wiring, you should disconnect all speakers from your receiver. If the receiver continues to go into PROTECT, the problem is in the receiver. Please submit a case on the Contact Us page. They will be able to assist you.\r\n\r\nHowever, if it turns on, the problem is elsewhere. Begin reconnecting one speaker at a time. Eventually you will connect a speaker that will cause the receiver to shut down. At this point you have found your culprit.\r\n\r\nOn the other hand, it may just be overheating. You must have at least 2 - 3 inches of space between the top of the unit and any shelf or component above the unit. The unit should not be inside a sealed compartment when being used. The unit must be able to breath. There are very powerful amps in these receivers. If they run too hot, they will shut down. An external fan can help this."},{"attributes":{"type":"FAQ__kav","url":"/services/data/v38.0/sobjects/FAQ__kav/ka01Y00000041pfQAA"},"Title":"What HDCP version is featured in the AVR and BDS models?","Id":"ka01Y00000041pfQAA","ArticleNumber":"000005484","ArticleType":"FAQ__kav","Question__c":"What HDCP version is featured in the AVR and BDS models?","Answer__c":"All AVR models up to and including 151S, 161S and 171S feature HDCP version 1.4.\r\n(High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection).\r\nThis is also true for BDS 280, 580, 280S and 580S.\r\n\r\nIt is not possible to update to version 2.2 with any software/firmware update, as this requires a hardware change.\r\n\r\nFuture models may feature version 2.2, made for UHD/4k content."},{"attributes":{"type":"FAQ__kav","url":"/services/data/v38.0/sobjects/FAQ__kav/ka0i0000000YWPmAAO"},"Title":"Can I setup WiFi on my BDS 280S or 580S with my iPhone?","Id":"ka0i0000000YWPmAAO","ArticleNumber":"000005302","ArticleType":"FAQ__kav","Question__c":"Can I setup WiFi on my BDS 280S or 580S with my iPhone?","Answer__c":"Yes it is possible. I have a BDS280 and also a Sabre SB35 soundbar. The volume control on the BDS handset does not adjust the volume on the Sabre, so I'm having to use two remote controls to operate Harman Kardon equipment instead of one. Is this normal or is there a fault?

Asked by: Mark44
Hi. This is normal. The volume control on your BDS system uses different volume remote codes compared to the SB35. But since your SB35 has a learning function, meant to permit it to be coded to respond to your TV remote control, you can instead choose to use this function to make the SB35 respond to the BDS remote instead. This will of course mean that if both devices are ON, both will respond simultaneously to a command, but it is possible to have what you ask for. We hope this helps.

I purchased this BDS 280 from you recently and did not get a user manual. How do I get a manual? I tried a search for a downloadable text but got a "Not Found" for BDS280. Please help so I can learn to use the many features.

My BDS 280 does not have a Bluetooth button and the Home menu does not show the Bluetooth option. How can I play music from a Bluetooth enabled devise - such as my computer - ? Thank you. xabier

Xabier: That is odd, and, although I don't have a definitive answer (I did not have that problem or maybe, I just did not notice it, if I had it, I don't have that problem now, that is certain), I have two suggestions. 1) Check you BT ver ... Settings, System, Information -> more ... or something like that ... it will show up at the bottom left corner of a small two column table. Mine reads "BT ver: V116.0" ... this whole process and the answer may be slightly different if your firmware is at a different revision. Also you likely have an EU version of the system software. 2) Get the latest firmware installed (that was my first step, my system firmware is now at V2.86, yours may be different for the EU) ... use an internet connection to do that if you can, you need to have it on a internet connected network and Set System Upgrade to "Internet". (Note: I have the same BDS 280 here in the US, I did have a peculiarity in that it performed one additional upgrade that it did not find as necessary, go figure ... it did several upgrades in succession each time I checked for updates, - every time I set the System upgrade to "Internet", it checked for a new upgrade and then reset that "System upgrade" setting, (no explaining that) - so I'd have to enable it again, and it would check again, then on one pass it eventually said I was all up to date, I clicked OK ... lo and behold, it started another update ... I have no way to explain that, either... but I stopped checking ... was afraid it would never end (indefinite postponement), or that it would eventually mess up ... I did do 4 or 5 upgrades to get to 2.86) I guess I could try it again and see if the version changes! There is also a download, then use a USB stick drive approach to upgrading, but support is very light on the US site, if there is a version out there for me to download to a computer, then I think it is older, V2.78 (best guess based on the file name) ... so I did not see an easy way to get the latest US fw that way, but the Euro support site also has the Euro version - and i think the Eu site is more active and better maintained. Then of course (if you can get your BT working) you have two options to sync ... newer devices support the NFC touch method, my iPhone 5 did not ... so you sync from the external device in the usual way. Good Luck! -gene
