High-performance audio/video receiver that boasts multiple wireless connectivity options, six HDMI inputs and 700 watts of beautiful sound. Power, performance and more connectivity options than you’ll ever need: Introducing the Harman Kardon® networked AVR 171S, the answer to any entertainment enthusiast’s hunger for performance and versatility. It’s got muscle: up to 700 watts (100 watts per channel). Its 7.2-channel A/V receiver is equipped with HARMAN TrueStream Bluetooth® connectivity, Apple AirPlay, vTuner™ Internet radio and Spotify Connect, giving you multiple options for streaming audio. And with six 3D-ready HDMI® 2.0 inputs, including one equipped for MHL to connect mobile devices, and two HDMI outputs, you’ll have more than enough ways to connect to everything you love – movies, HDTV, sports, MHL-equipped devices and the Roku Streaming Stick™ dongle. While the AVR 171’s connectivity alone makes it desirable, its sound really strikes a chord. It’s the first Harman Kardon AVR to feature our exclusive Natural Sound Processing (NSP), which creates a rich, enveloping surround-sound from any source – particularly with two-channel streaming content. And its EzSet/EQ™ III system automatically calibrates the AVR to your speakers and listening environment. The AVR 171S is light, too, thanks to HARMAN GreenEdge™ certification – delivering all the power you need with low environmental impact. For those who want it all, the AVR 171S can’t be matched.

Thanks to the massive heat sinks used in the AVR series, this temperature is rarely reached. A typical situation where the fan will come on is when the AVR is operating at a very loud volume level with program material that has sounds in all seven channels. Since this is a rare occurrence, you may never notice the fan working. In any case, when the fan does come on, the volume will be loud enough that you might not notice it. Thus, you may own an AVR for many years and never hear the fan, or see it in operation. There is no way to test the fan, and none is needed."}],"maxQuestionsPerPage":null,"maxPages":null}

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Feeling good after one week use Used for last one week and feeling good. Connected to HKTS 16BQ along with another two front speakers and sounds good. OSD & remote need to be improvised and they need to compete with other brands by adding more features. Installation of stand was a lil tough.

Hi! I purchased a 171s a while ago and recently purchased some older games. I discovered that the analog video inputs doesn't work. Sound works fine, but it won't show anything on the TV even though I have selected the right output in setup. Suggestions?

Asked by: Gurrabus
Hi When using the Analog Video inputs on the AVR171S, you also need to use the Analog outputs again. There is no analog to digital converter in the AVR171S, so when you only have the HDMI output from the AVR connected to the TV's HDMI input, you will not have video signal. If you require further assistance, please contact our customer support.

Hello, I have just purchased the sonny 65-A1 Oled tv and I'm trying to use the 171S AVR to complete my setup. The problem i'm facing is that the AVR doesnt seem to be passing the 4K signal from the Set top box through. What can i try?

Asked by: Bravia
Hi Thank you for your question. if the set top box 4K signal doesn't get through the AVR - We suggest that you connect it directly to the TV and use ARC sound. If you have further questions, please feel welcome to contact our help-desk.

I have this amp and I am enjoying it lots, however I don#'t know how to select the 'optical 2' input. Can anyone let me know how I do this?

Asked by: Taff80
Hi You would need to set up a source on your AVR171S to use "Optical 2" as an audio input. Press the OSD/Menu button on your remote and select "Source Setup". Here you can scroll through the different sources for which you have a button on your remote. If you for instance have nothing connected to the HDMI 5 input ( Game ), you can change the Source settings for this button on your remote, to use no "Video Input", and "Optical 2" as your "Audio Input". When you press the "Game" button on your remote then, you will have selected "Optical 2" as your input source. If you require further assistance, please contact our customer support.

hi, i have purchase the AVR171 with the HKTS 16 which is really good in term of sound for watchinh movies, but when it relates to listening music, those little satelite does not hit that much, so i was wondering to purchase 2 floor column speaker to add

Asked by: Ravish
Hi. It is true that very compact loudspeakers often do not offer the same dynamics as bigger models do. Using two floorstanders as front channel speakers is a good idea. Depending on your budget, JBL offers Arena 170 or 180 and Studio 270 or 280. They will all work well with your AVR171, and will offer better sound. The studio 2 series is somewhat more detailed and refined than the Arena series, but Arenas are still very good, very musical speakers. One of the differences is that Arena uses a soft dome tweeter, whereas Studio 2 uses metal for the tweeter. I hope this helps.

to add with the receiver to complete the 7 channel, my question is does it play same like a stereo receiver or smoothly as the AVR171 do have the stereo function, will it hit just like a stereo receiver??? thanks

Asked by: Ravish
Hi. AVR 171S plays a lot like the HK 3770, but of course, if you use all channels of the surround model, it will have less headroom in the power supply than if you use the two-channel model. But the basic sound is pretty much alike.

I have recently purchased AVR 171S Receiver. I would need the specifications (watt and impedance ratings) of the speakers (7) and the sub-woofer that I need to connect with. Also what is the difference between AVR 1710S and AVR 171S models?

Is it possible to use the AVR171S as a 5.1 system - with only the front speakers, center speaker, surround speakers and one sub woofer?

Asked by: Angelo
Yes, you can choose to not use all channels on the AVR 171S. It's possible to disable the channels you won't use, and if at any point in the future you would decide to add the extra surround speakers, you can simply enable the channels again.
